Big Little Lies: Surfs Up when Douglas Smith Joins the Cast for Season Two #book2movie

If you’ve been watching The Alienist— I have but I keep falling asleep, is that just me?—you know Douglas Smith as Det. Sgt. Marcus Isaacson. But now Smith is fast-forwarding from 1896 New York straight to 2018 Monterey, California for Big Little Lies.

As Deadline reports, actor Douglas Smith will play an off-beat surfer and aspiring marine biologist, Corey Brockfield, who works with Shailene Woodley’s character Jane. Cue the rom-com soundtrack?

What I especially like about the news is that as a surfer, perhaps we’ll be seeing a bit more of the beautiful beaches and rugged California coastline of the area surrounding Monterrey.

According to HBO, season two of Big Little Lies “will explore the malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting. Relationships will fray, loyalties will erode, and the potential for emotional and bodily injury shall loom.’’

Big Little Lies author, Liane Moriarty, is reportedly also involved with the second season, which is partially based on a story by the Australian author. You’ll remember another new addition to the show—Meryl Streep as the mother-in-law of  Celeste (Nicole Kidman) which should shake things up post Percy quite a bit.

Season Two doesn’t debut for months and months, while it’s not based on the Liane Moriarty novel, will you be sticking around to watch it?
