Rest in Peace William Peter Blatty

Blatty the author of The Exorcist has died at the age of 89.

Blatty also wrote the screenplay for the movie and won the Academy Award and the Golden Globe for his work on the 1973 movie. He remains one of a handful of authors who have won the Oscar for adapting their novels for the screen. In 1981, Blatty also won a Golden Globe for his screenplay for The Ninth Configuration, based on his own book.

For those of us who saw The Exorcist in theaters in 1973, it was a blood-curdling, terrifying experience. Twenty, I recall screaming out loud in the theater. I was not alone.

Thanks for the screams, Mr. Blatty. Rest in peace.
