Ewan McGregor* Ambitious Directorial Debut: American Pastoral #book2movies

*I had this as Ewan McEwan and none of you noticed! Or were you just too polite to say? I was spacing, thinking of Ian McEwan, I guess. sc

You’ve got to hand it to Ewan McGregor. A lot of actors want to direct. Most of them don’t wade in with an adaptation of a hefty Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. American Pastoral based on the novel by Philip Roth debuts tomorrow, Friday September 9th at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film, directed by and starring McGregor also stars Dakota Fanning, Hannah Nordberg and Jennifer Connelly with Uzo Aduba, David Strathairn and Rupert Evans.

While the novel is a large, complicated beast, here’s the simplified storyline from imdb:
In 1968, a hardworking man, who's been a staple in his quaint community for years, watches his seemingly perfect middle class life fall apart as his daughter's new radical political affiliation threatens to destroy their family.

American Pastoral debuts at Tiff, opens in the US October 21. Pretty ambitious debut, can’t wait to see it.
