Sherlock: Put on your deerstalker hat baby, cuz we're going out tonight.

Characters We Love
Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch pose in Victorian duds

The game's afoot! Sherlock and Watson are going back to Victorian England for a special Christmas episode of the show. The question is how? And why? And will we be able to look at Watson's handlebar moustache without laughing? [I know I'm a True Brit at heart because I insist on spelling moustache the English way even though my spell check keeps changing it to mustache.]

“The special is its own thing,” co-creator Steven Moffat told EW“We wouldn’t have done the story we’re doing, and the way we’re doing it, if we didn’t have this special. It’s not part of the run of three episodes. So we had this to do it – as we could hardly conceal – it’s Victorian. [Co-creator Mark Gatiss] and me, we wanted to do this, but it had to be a special, it had to be a separate entity on its own. It’s kind of in its own little bubble.”

Put on your deerstalker hat and do tell, what in the blazes in going on? How will our thoroughly modern Sherlock and his man Watson arrive back in Merry Olde? Is it a dream? Did the BBC spring for yet another Dr. Who-like time machine? What's your theory?

And can you wait for the wallpaper?

Thanks to Ruth at BookTalk&More I've got a clip from the show; no worry, no spoilers.
