Far from the Madding Crowd: Anatomy of a Scene via the NY Times

I'm still on vacation, far from theaters, but Far from the Madding Crowd came out today anyway. Time waits for no man or woman it seems. So while I won't be able to see the film for awhile I did read an interesting review in the New York Times. The article includes the Times Anatomy of a Scene feature in which director Thomas Vinterberg goes over Bathsheba Everdene's meeting with the handsome soldier in the woods. Swordplay ensues; I found the scene, with the sword standing in for his penis, rather shocking.

Check out the link and see what you think.
