I'm sure you've seen the commercials for The Seventh Son starring Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore. Two actors I adore; Julianne is top of my list for this year's best actress award for her work in the emotionally powerful Still Alice and Jeff Bridges is ... well, he's the dude, after all. And who wouldn't be excited to see the two of them together after seeing the pair in The Big Lebowski, what, sometime in the last century, wasn't it? So why does the trailer for The Seventh Son make me laugh? It's a fantasy, not a comedy!
Centuries ago, a supernatural champion named Master Gregory (Jeff Bridges) defeated Mother Malkin (Julianne Moore), a malevolent witch. Now, she has escaped imprisonment and thirsts for vengeance. She summons her followers and prepares to unleash her wrath on humanity. Only one thing stands in her way: Master Gregory. Gregory takes Tom Ward (Ben Barnes) as his new apprentice, but he has only until the next full moon to teach Tom what usually takes years: how to prevail against dark magic.See? Nothing funny about that! Based on The Spooks Apprentice by Joseph Delaney the film was supposed to come out two years ago, on February 6th, 2013, but things were, ahem, delayed. Now The Seventh Son is being released, this week, on February 5th. I've also got the trailer which you can watch in English — and tell me if you find Jeff Bridge's voice as laughable as I do — and in French where everything sounds marvelous because it's French and everything always sounds marvelous in French!
