From the set of "Inherent Vice'" Behind the scenes with Joaquin Phoenix

It's another Slacker Sunday where I lazily deliver a video from bed. Excuse me while I sip a little latte. 

This behind the scenes peek was posted to Youtube by Brian Reynolds who visited the set of Inherent Vice last summer when the film was being shot in Manhattan Beach, California. No sign of Joaquin Phoenix' Walk the Line co-star Reese Witherspoon on the Paul Thomas Anderson set but about 20 seconds in Phoenix (Doc Sportello) walks through the crowd and bums a cigarette from a very, very tall bald man before disappearing from sight. It's a bit hard to tell but it looks like Phoenix just approaching one of the guests watching the production to get a smoke rather than action in a scene. It's a small crowded set, with groups of extras in period costume standing nearby - notice the blond on the right wearing a halter top? Director Paul Thomas Anderson pops up in the center of the screen about a minute and a half in.

The cast of Inherent Vice includes Maya Rudolph - who happens to be married to director Paul Thomas Anderson - along with Jena Malone, Josh Brolin, Sasha Pieterse, Owen Wilson, Benicio del Toro, Martin Short, Eric Roberts and Jillian Bell. Inherent Vice opens December 12th, making it eligible for an Academy run.
