First trailer for Unbroken directed by Angelina Jolie

The trailer for Unbroken, the Angelina Jolie - directed film based on Laura Hillenbrand's book has just been released.  The drama that follows the life of Louis "Louie" Zamperini, a war hero and Olympian who survived in a raft for 47 days after he and a pair of crewmen suffer a near-fatal plane crash in WWII. The three men - Zamperini (Jack O'Connell), Phil (Domhnall Gleeson) and Mac (Finn Wittrock) - are eventually found by the Japanese Navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp.

The cast includes Garrett Hedlund (On the Road) and John Magaro (we'll see more of him in Carol, based on the Patricia Highsmith novel) as fellow POWs. Alex Russell is Zamperini's brother, Pete, and a Japanese actor Miyavi making his English-language feature debut, as the brutal camp guard known only as "The Bird."

Louis Zamperini, shown above training for the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, passed away on July 2 at the age of 97. Let's watch the trailer; the film looks incredible, powerful and very moving. Kudos to the book and now the film, for shining a spotlight on a real American hero.
