Aaaaargh! My Christmas just won't be the same.

I was sooooo looking forward to seeing Baz Luhrman's The Great Gatsby starring Leonardo DiCaprio this Christmas season. Except now Scrooge, aka Warner Bros., has pushed the film to August 2013 saying they think it has a shot at being a summer smash. HUH?! Hmmm. Maybe high school english teachers will put it on their summer 'viewing' list. That could work.

What the move does mean is that the film is out of the running for the Oscars for 2012; whether it will stand out and be remembered for awards season next year remains to be seen. So no nom for Leo this year.

The move also means some other films will have a chance to advance in the Oscar race. Editors at Gold Derby lay out the new top ten list:
Best Picture category: “Lincoln,” “The Master,” “Les Miserables,” “Life of Pi,” “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” “Hyde Park on Hudson,” “Django Unchained,” “Zero Dark Thirty,” “The Hobbit” and “Anna Karenina.”
FUNNY! Most of these films have not been released yet. As you most likely know, the most likely Oscar contenders are released at the end of the year.
