“An Electric Dream Come True” Bryan Cranston joining Philip K. Dick TV Series

Philip K. Dick and sci-fi fans in general have plenty of reasons to celebrate! Not only is a Blade Runner remake with Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford in the works—okay, so not everyone is onboard with a Blade Runner remake—but now there’s a new series coming. Electric Dreams: The World of Philip K. Dick will feature a separate stand alone story in each episode with Bryan Cranston onboard as producer as well as appearing. It makes me wonder if he’ll play Philip K. Dick and intro the episodes ala Rod Serling in The Twilight Zone. Just a thought, but I think it’d be pretty cool.

“This is an electric dream come true,” said Cranston “We are so thrilled to be able to explore and expand upon the evergreen themes found in the incredible work of this literary master.”

With an extensive body of work including forty novels and short stories the writers will have no shortage of tales to tell.

Plenty have already been explored on film:
Besides Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? the basis for Blade Runner, We Can Remember it For You Wholesale— which you may remember better as Total RecallThe Adjustment Bureau based on The Adjustment Team, Minority Report based on the story of the same name. A Scanner Darkly starring Keanu Reeves.  The Man in the High Castle which debuted on Amazon in 2015 and others.

And there's plenty more where those came from. The 10 episode series has a writers’ room of both British and American writers and will make its debut on England’s Channel 4. This sounds like a case for an ongoing series to me ala Twilight Zone or more recently, Black Mirror

Are you a sci-fi fan? How does the series sound to you?
And while I’m asking questions, what did you think of Richard Linlater’s adaptation of Dick’s A Scanner Darkly?
Here’s the trailer for the animated film starring Keanu Reeves, Wynona Ryder and Robert Downey Jr.
