Vertigo: Up from the vault.

What vault? Where? The virtual vault where I pull posts up from out of the past, re-release them, kinda like Disney. That vault.

Today I dug deep down into my virtual vault and found a perfect movie for a Saturday Matinee. As a bonus I’ve got the opening title sequence to the Hitchcock classic Vertigo based on the book D'Entre les Morts by Pierre Boileau and Thomas Narcejac. Vertigo stars —oh, come on, you know who it stars—and is available to stream on Amazon, YouTube and iTunes.
Was director Alfred Hitchcock frustrated that the film was nominated for two Oscars, not for best film, best director, best screenplay or any of the best actor categories but for Sound, and Art Direction, and that it won neither? South Pacific took it in the sound category, with Gigi, ( ah! Gigi, my first French crush ) winning for Art Direction. Must have been a big year for musicals!

And the trailer ...

  1. You find the best things in your vault! The stills make the movie look fake, but once it's rolling, the acting makes you forget everything else.
