Mockingjay; Part 1. The full length trailer is here. Ho Hum.

Mockingjay! If you didn't catch the full length trailer just released by Lionsgate, I've got it for you here. I've sort of lost interest in the series - heresy! - so you'll have to forgive me for not gushing. (I do tend to gush when I love something.) I think it's great that young women have Katniss as a strong, kick-ass female role model; just feeling kind of sad that we can't get away from the idea of strength being defined in the same old violent terms. Those are the old masculine terms and a mindset that has helped to create the very divided world we're living in. I know, I know. The world is violent, mankind is violent, and especially in the world of the Capitol vs District 13, it's kill or be killed. Most of us would choose the former. Still, it feels so old to me. I can't help but wonder, with all the strides humankind has made, why we can't find some way to overcome the us vs them mentality. A little zapper to help us all cooperate and get along. Can't someone make an app for that?

I also know that Mockingjay, Part 1 is only a movie. It's cathartic. And I'm one who appreciates the need for catharsis and the important role fantasy plays in our lives. That's part of the reason Game of Thrones is so popular - I see you there in the Mockingjay trailer Margaery (Natalie Dormer). So, sigh, here it is. Mockingjay stars Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Donald Sutherland, Julianne Moore, Stanley Tucci, Toby Jones, Jeffrey Wright, Jena Malone, Natalie Dormer, Elizabeth Banks and Woody Harrelson. Criminey! Just typing up that list of incredibly strong actors - Hemsworth and Hutcherson excepted (yes, I said that - Is it wrong of me to liken the young men to the pretty young things that movies made for men like to add in as decorative elements?) is enough to give one pause and ask why the hell are you in this movie?! No, I didn't mean that, it's exciting, it'll be another mega-hit, make a ton of money and it's all in fun. Bloody good fun.

What is it President Snow says? "It's the things we love most that destroy us."
