New Divergent trailer: You're able to control and conquer your fears

Have you seen the new Divergent trailer?  Theo James and Shailene Woodley zip-lined down to the Jimmy Kimmel show stages to debut it on the late night show.  Kimmel asked several times if the stars were ready for the Hunger Games/Twilight treatment which both actors gently avoided answering. They have to be feeling the pressure; it's clear Summit is hoping to compete with the unbelievable success of The Hunger Games franchise while some media watchers are wondering if Divergent is trying too hard to show how much it has in common with The Hunger Games rather than emphasizing what's different about it. Check out Julia Emmanuelle's view on the subject at Hollywood.com

I found the voice-over that begins the trailer a little flat but beyond that, all the elements of suspense, action and sexual tension seem to be in place. Those tattoos on Four's back just ask to be touched; who can blame Tris for complying? If one is looking for differences, that seems a huge one. Theo James who we fell for in Downton Abbey is so much more of a mature MAN than Katniss's love interests Peeta or Gale and Tris and Four align themselves almost from the start, working together as a couple. In the trailers at least, the character of Tris seems no less kick-ass than Katniss for having partnered up. I guess we'll have to see the entire film to judge how Shailene Woodley's Tris character fares as heroine.

The cast of Divergent includes Kate Winslet as Jeannine Matthews, the ruthless leader intent on securing control - what a switch from her fearful Labor Day character - and Maggie Q, Ashley Judd, Jai Courtney and Woodley's costars from The Spectacular Now and the upcoming The Fault in Our Stars, Miles Teller and Ansel Elgort respectively. Divergent comes out March 21st.
