"Where'd You Go Bernadette?" goes to the movies

I just heard that Where'd You Go, Bernadette is en route to the big screen via the writing duo behind 500 Days of Summer. Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber (left)  are also said to be writing the adaptation for John Green's The Fault in Our Stars so I'm doubly excited!

I have to say I'm a bit surprised that Maria Semple isn't writing the screenplay herself considering her Hollywood roots; she's written for hilarious television shows like Arrested Development, Mad About You, and the Ellen show.  I wonder if she just wasn't interested; perhaps knowing Hollywood all too well???

By the way, Where'd You Go, Bernadette is being financed in part by the 25 year old daughter of multi-billionaire Oracle founder, Larry Ellison. Megan Ellison through her newly formed company Annapurna Pictures has been producing films like crazy of late: The Master, Zero Dark Thirty, Lawless (based on the book The Wettest County in the World) and Killing Them Softly. Her critics say she is pumping too much money on what should be smaller scale films while filmmakers whose projects are outside typical mainstream Hollywood are appreciative of the helping hand. She's very private and doesn't do interviews; I wonder how hands off she is terms of her projects. Her taste level is obviously good; I wouldn't be surprised at all to see her become a real powerhouse in the years to come.

Do you want to play casting couch with me? Who should be the hilariously agoraphobic Bernadette? And is she really as fabulous a character as she sounds? I better start reading!
