I just heard that Where'd You Go, Bernadette is en route to the big screen via the writing duo behind 500 Days of Summer. Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber (left) are also said to be writing the adaptation for John Green's The Fault in Our Stars so I'm doubly excited!
I have to say I'm a bit surprised that Maria Semple isn't writing the screenplay herself considering her Hollywood roots; she's written for hilarious television shows like Arrested Development, Mad About You, and the Ellen show. I wonder if she just wasn't interested; perhaps knowing Hollywood all too well???

Do you want to play casting couch with me? Who should be the hilariously agoraphobic Bernadette? And is she really as fabulous a character as she sounds? I better start reading!
Bernadette is one of those rare books whose humor enhances the darkness underneath rather than clashes with or hides it. it's so good.
ReplyDeleteOh, I hope they do the book justice. I can't think of the right person to play Bernadette.
