A Shot in the Dark

Saturday Snapshot

Saturday Snapshot is a weekly meme hosted by Alyce at At Home with Books. To participate post a picture that you or someone you know, took and link it back to Alyce.

My son Russell took these shots of the night sky.
I love the glowing orbs and blurred streaky sky.
Did you guess the orbs were lights in a parking lot?
I love that he can find the beauty in something
as pedestrian as a mall parking lot.

  1. I like that about photographers, too...finding the beauty in the ordinary, or even in ruins. Thanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog.

Yes, I had tie-dye on the cover of Miles to Go...lol. That one is my "celebration" of our lives in the seventies. Borrowed from my own life, minus some of the "too ordinary" things....

    1. 'even in the ruins' YES! Ruins and ravages are the best photo subjects. The older I get, the more my ravaged face is ripe for a good photo portrait.

  2. Thanks for dropping by and visiting!!!

If you like the Atomic Museum you might like the Mob Museum in Vegas http://junkboattravels.blogspot.ca/2013/01/mob-museum-las-vegas.html

We captured a great sunset in the Loew's parking lot that I was almost embarrassed to post LOL!!

    1. Thanks Jackie; I'll take a look because a) we love Vegas and b) mobsters too. I can't believe we've never gone ... too busy shoving quarters in machines or gawking at the pirate show at Treasure Island I suspect, LOL!

    1. Me too! For me I think it's the contrast between the inky sky and the sharp shine of the parked cars.

    1. He likes to take pictures on his cell phone just to capture the moment and have it on file. He was visiting last night and I asked if he had anything on his phone I could share for Saturday Snapshot. I have to make sure I'm not too embarrassingly maternal in my usage of his stuff!

  7. That first one looks quite other worldly, but I really like the second one. My Snapshot is at http://goo.gl/GVIbC

  8. My favourite is the second one, too! I had no idea they were parking lot lights.

  9. When I first opened your page I thought it was going to be a UFO post :-)
I love how digital photography allows everyone to have a go at capturing moments - my youngest stepson has taken some of the most amazing photos over the years including the childs-eye view of our wedding a few years ago - he spotted and took photos of details that no adult thought to.

  11. The ability to see beauty in the ordinary is definitely an important part of life. I like the way you arranged the photos and gradually showed what the orbs were. :)

  13. It has a kind of abstract look to it... until you see the parking lot in the last shot.

  14. It's so important to find the beauty in the ordinary, even though it's really, really hard some days. I think it's one of the secrets of happiness.
