It's Indie Bookstore Friday
Every Friday I post a picture of an independent bookstore along with a link to their website. I love these rare breeds that are becoming increasingly harder to find by the day and just want to show my support. Feel free to play along and show your support for independent bookstores, post a picture and add your url to Mr. Linky. It can be your local bookstore, the indie you work for, around the corner or across the country. Toledo, Toronto or Timbuktu. It's up to you!

Where I live, in a suburban community about 45 minutes from Los Angeles we only have one independent bookstore. MYSTERIES TO DIE FOR in Thousand Oaks.  Obviously they have a niche and they're a popular stop for mystery writers on tour. And while we have a really nice Barnes & Noble in the area too,  I'm pretty sure Mysteries to Die For is here to stay! They say they specialize in mysteries "of all flavors... Cozies, Hardboiled, Police procedural, Women Detectives, British and more"

  1. So I am trying AGAIN to comment...apparently some Blogger people have been getting error messages when they try to comment this morning, and I am one of them (I'm all special like that.) What I have been trying to say is that this store looks great, and if I were driving down the road and saw that sign, I would for sure do a U-turn and head back :)

  3. On a fairly unrelated note, I am doing April National Script Writing Month! I'm going to write a movie script :)

    1. LOVE IT! I tried that once, it wasn't for me but we are a movie family. My son is co-writing a horror film with a friend, my husband is 2/3rds through a script. But that's Hollywood - everyone out here is working on a script or knows someone who is!
Today is my son's first day actually working on a movie though so that's exciting. Anyway, I'm blabbering ... good luck with your script, you have a terrific writing style so :)

  4. I think that these indie bookstores that specialize in particular genre have a much greater chance of surviving--if you love that particular genre, you know you'll have a much greater choice of books over a chain store.

  5. Oh wow! That looks like such a wonderful bookstore, so original! We definitely don't have anything like that near us.

I agree with the comment above - I'd definitely pull over if I was driving past :)
